Dragon fruit is a succulent or cacti species that is cultivated and thrives in tropical and subtropical areas. It belongs to the most beautiful exotic fruits. It can reach 3 meters in height, as well as climb like a vine. Its fruit is red externally and has a white flesh on the inside. All the seeds are on the inside of the fruit (in the white of its flesh), which are eaten without problem. It bears fruits 3- 6 times per year, depending on the climate and the cultivation care. It has yellow- green flowers that open during the night until the morning and are edible (for tea). It needs at least 18 oC to yield, and the harvest takes place about 2 months after flowering. It doesn’t like areas with high rainfall, as there its flowers fall and its fruits rot. It thrives on sandy and well- drained soils, because water retention rots the roots.
